Another Christmas Gone and Done

Well Christmas 2004 is over and done. Santa was good to me as usual. I did buy my wife the dvd of "A Christmas Story". There are some fun interview with the kids from the movie 20 years later. I also picked her up the Los Lonely Boys cd. I think they are going to be one of the top groups of 2005.

Had Christmas Eve dinner at our house. The menu consisted of a Seasoned Port Roast from Wayne's Country Grocery in Marengo, South Beach oven roasted vegetables, and scalloped potatoes. My mother, sister and brother-in-law joined us. After dinner we played the game - Scene It.

Christmas Day was spent at my wife's brother's house and my sister's.

3 More Shopping Days!

This holiday season has been a tough one for the store. Sales have not been close to what was expected. I have been on vacation from my full time job to help Char out at the store. We have been talking with other business owners and are getting the same response from everyone. Maybe the next 3 days will turn everything around. I'm very optimistic you know.

Christmas Eve is going to be spent at my house and will consist of my mother - June, sister - Dawn, brother-in-law - Tom and myself. The dinner will consist of a seasoned pork roast, Scalloped potatoes and oven roasted vegetables. The oven roasted vegetables are from the first South Beach Book and consist of asparagus, red onion, red pepper, yellow pepper, yellow squash and zucchini. I highly recommend the vegetables.

What's Up

Here is what's going on! Over the weekend, the wife and I volunteered to help out with the breakfast for Santa in downtown Crystal Lake. As usual, the turnout was full tilt! 188 tickets were sold and we thank Santa for taking time out of his busy schedule to help us. Each ticket buyer also got a horse drawn wagon ride through the downtown area.

Last night we went to a neighbors house for their annual Christmas party. The food was great and the company was fantastic. We only knew 6-7 people there, but all the rest were Park Ridge Firemen who made us feel more than welcome.

Holiday Movie Poll

Had a great Thanksgiving. Since there were only 3 of us, we made a turkey breast and stuffing, candied yams, green bean casserole and biscuits. I ate way too much! Oh we also had Pumpkin Pie! Finished off the evening with a call from our alarm company saying our alarm was going off at our store.

Out of Town!

I've been out of town in Minnesota most of last week, so I'm a little behind in my blogging. Over the weekend we went to my Nephew's engagement party at a restaurant in Chicago - Central Gyros. It's a Greek restaurant that has been around for 32 years. They have a wonderful selection of Greek food. Now my wife or I have never been to an engagement party before so we did not know what to expect. It was very nice, the food was good (we had a combination platter). The couple opened their gifts which included items needed for their wedding. Went home with the feeling of eating too much.

On Sunday was our 17 year wedding anniversary. We decided to celebrate by going out to dinner at a new restaurant in the area - Bonefish Grill. The food was wonderful as was the waitress - Cheryl. I had a snapper in a butter and pineapple sauce. It was dusted with Macadamia nuts. Char had a pecan crusted white fish of some kind. For an appetizer we had the Bang Bang shrimp. Very tasty!

Saturday Night Fish Fry

Yes, a Saturday night fish fry! Our friends John and Melissa had a fish and chips night at their house on Saturday night. The food fare consisted of hand battered fish deep fried of course, chips (french fries), handmade hushpuppies, corn bread and a 3 bean casserole. Let me tell you, this was some good eatin'. I tried the fish with both tarter sauce and malt vinegar. I think I preferred the malt vinegar. The company was great as usual and would you believe, no one talked politics!
